Frequently Asked Questions

  • What sets your program apart?
Our program is unique for the following reasons and our prices are reflective of this. We are a small-scale, ethical breeder and with this comes attention to detail. We raise one litter at a time. This allows us to give our puppies and moms the attention that they deserve. Our moms and puppies live inside of our home, not in a kennel, not on a farm. We health test. Our dogs are not carriers of major diseases that bernedoodles can suffer from. I personally hand deliver each puppy. I weigh them daily, make sure they are healthy and happy, and work them through a curriculum that sets them up to be a secure, resilient, and well socialized puppy. Everything about our program is done with love and intent to nurture our puppies into a dog that will fit into your lifestyle. We raise great puppies, and place them with the best families!
  • Will a bernedoodle be good for a family with young children?
Yes! We have three children of our own who help with the puppies daily. Our puppies are very much used to being handled by children. Our moms and puppies live inside of our home. They are part of our family and are raised under foot with the sights, sounds, smells, noises, and day to day activities of a home! We are proud of this and know in our heart that this approach nurtures and brings out the very best in our puppies. Great puppies for great families!
  • I live alone or have a small family. Will a bernedoodle be right for me?
Puppies/dogs need love, care, exercise, and attention. If you have the time and resources to provide these necessities, then the answer is Yes! What a puppy loves best is you and your time. Bernedoodles very much love being with their person or people!
  • How much will my puppy weigh?
Our miniature bernedoodles weigh between 30 and 40 pounds. Our litter that is due in the spring should average around 35 pounds based on parent weights.
  • Will my puppy have crate exposure?
Yes! By the time you get your puppy they will have been introduced to a crate and should feel comfortable sleeping in one. Just remember that the puppies generally sleep with their littermates so they may miss them the first few nights. A Snuggle Puppy can help with this. (available on amazon)
  • Will my puppy have started potty training?
Potty training is a process, but it is one that I start for you! I routinely take puppies out first thing in the morning after I wake them up. They instinctively piddle on the grass and will be used to doing this! They also get exposure to an outdoor fenced area several times a day, this naturally encourages them to use the grass!
  • Will my puppy have been vet checked and have their first round of vaccinations?
Yes, your puppy will come checked by a licensed veterinarian between six and seven weeks of age. In addition, they will receive their first round of vaccinations and will have been dewormed at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks.
  • Do I need to take my puppy to the vet?
Yes, please have your puppy seen by your licensed veterinarian within 48 hours of you taking possession of the puppy! This is to protect you the buyer and me the seller. At this time your veterinarian will set a course for the completion of the vaccinations your puppy will need.
  • Should I have my dog spayed or neutered?
Yes. I require proof of spay/neuter be submitted to me. Please consult with your veterinarian about the age he or she feels this is best. I prefer no older than 18 months of age.
  • Will my bernedoodle shed?
Very minimally. Our miniatures are F1b. They shed very little if at all. They are a great choice for anyone who suffers from allergies or just does not want to deal with dog hair.
  • Will my bernedoodle need groomed?
Yes, they will need groomed every 6-8 weeks. This is due to them not shedding on their own.
  • What kind of food should I purchase for our new puppy?
We feed Purina Pro Plan Puppy; it is a high-quality food. Please plan to feed this to start. If you decide to switch foods, please do so as follows to minimize digestive upset. 75% Purina Pro Plan Puppy 25% new food for one week. 50% Purina Pro Plan Puppy 50% new food for one week. 25% Purina Pro Plan Puppy 75% new food for one week. 100% new food.

At eight weeks of age the puppies may leave their mom and begin life in their happy new forever home!
  • What will I need for my new puppy?
A collar, harness, (easier for walks) and leash Purina Pro Plan Puppy Food A crate (I recommend crate training to keep your puppy safe while unsupervised) Toys! Bernedoodles are very smart, food puzzles are an enjoyable choice for them and help work their brain as well as expend some energy. Please use caution when buying toys with squeakers for safety reasons. Bully Sticks (instead of rawhide, they are much more digestible) Lots of love and some patience while your puppy is settling in!
  • Will I need to train my puppy?
Yes, all puppies need training. Although we have given them a great start they have much more to learn and will be able to handle more as they mature. Bernedoodles are very smart and learn easily. They want to please you, but you must teach them what that looks like.
  • I have other pets, what do I need to do to prepare?
Lots of people have more than one pet. If you have other dogs its important to make sure they are up to date on all their vaccines before bringing your puppy home.
  • How do I choose my puppy?
Puppy selections are made in the order reservation through deposits are received. For example, if you are the third person to reserve a puppy by placing a deposit, you would be third pick of the litter.
  • What is the deposit/payment process?
To reserve a puppy you will need to place a $500 nonrefundable deposit. This money will be applied toward the total purchase price of a puppy which is $3,500. The remaining balance of $3000 will be collected in cash at the time you pick up your sweet new puppy.
